Barbara Geist Awarded 2025 OGNT Promotion Award for Nuclear Medicine
Recognizing collaborative LBI-NetMed research on multi-organ metabolic networks published in Med
Our Adjunct Principal Investigator Barbara Geist has been awarded the 2025 General Promotion Award for Nuclear Medicine (Allgemeiner Förderungspreis Nuklearmedizin) by the Austrian Society of Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics (OGNT).
The award honors the paper, “The metabolic organ connectome: A novel approach to measure allostatic load during health-to-disease transition,” published in the journal Med. As we highlighted in October 2025, this study marked a significant milestone for our institute as the first joint publication of our three Principal Investigators—Barbara Geist, Julia Guthrie, and André Rendeiro—alongside additional colleagues and research partners.
The work introduces a computational framework for analyzing organ-level metabolic connectomes using total-body PET imaging. This methodology enables the quantitative mapping of systemic stress (allostatic load) across interconnected tissue systems during early transitions from health to disease.
By integrating kinetic modeling with network-based analytical approaches, the study exemplifies the core objective of LBI-NetMed: uncovering dynamic organ interactions to better understand systemic disease mechanisms.
We congratulate Barbara and all contributing co-authors on this recognition of their collaborative research.
