Art&Science: Exhibition and talk FUTURE NOW? at the Cultural Forum of the Austrian Embassy in Bratislava: Opening Jan 16th 2025
Looking into the Future with Art and Creativity What does the future mean? When does it begin, and what will it look like? To answer these questions, we might need to consult an oracle. This is exactly what we offer in our exhibition. Let us engage in a dialogue with a “Space Oracle”! This will open up spaces for thinking about different presents and futures. We will explore different time levels, immerse ourselves in captivating worlds, and also take a look in the mirror. Four artistic positions await you – participatory, profound, historical, and contemporary. The future becomes tangible in a fascinating interplay between art, technology, and science. Come, experience this journey of discovery, and become part of an exhibition that opens up new perspectives on the theme of the future!

Bettina Schülke will present her punch card installation “YES or NO.” The starting material for this installation is original, historical punch cards from a Jacquard loom from the early 19th century. The artist has been working at the intersection of art, science, and technology since her dissertation and will address aspects of the history and significance of punch cards, their materiality, and their transformation into immateriality.
Annette Tesarek, Norbert Unfug, and Sebastian Pirch will present their installation “The Pile of Trash meets the Space Oracle,” consisting of laptops, monitors, routers, AI, and a real-life performance. All three artists are part of the LBI-NetMed Art & Sciences Team.
We are excited to announce that Jörg Menche, the Director of LBI-NetMed, will deliver a talk titled “Art & Science: The Future of Their Connection.” He will discuss this fascinating topic, exploring the evolving relationship between art and science, current developments, and future directions. Join us on February 6, 2025, at 3:00 PM for this insightful event.
Presentation 2: February 20, 2025 (3:00 PM)
Studio Matchka (Margareta Klose & Peter Várnai) will present “Machaona 79.” The duo explores phantasmatic parallel realities with their oral poem animations, where fluid multispecies love poems and sounds echo. This refers to the possibility of lifelong transformation processes, surprising elective affinities, and empathy for one another.
Alexandar Peev will present his interactive video installation “I swim” and “Heat.” The artist works interdisciplinarily with video, film, sculpture, and painting. He will present his micro-cinema and invite all guests to leave their statements on the outside of the cinema after the joint discussion.
