Our Institute

At the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Network Medicine, we aim to create an environment where science, technology, and art come together, generating innovative research perspectives. This vision is not only reflected in our high-level fundamental scientific research but also in the space where we work.

In January 2026, we relocated from the Alte WU to the 5th floor of FRANCIS at Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof. The centrally located, completely revitalized building provides an ideal environment where research and art can intersect.

We are currently designing and furnishing the new space to support diverse workflows. The facilities include a creative room that combines a library and a music lab. Additionally, we have installed a flight simulator and a DataDiVR station for virtual reality projects.

Our new location aligns with the perspective outlined in the 2025 Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft Annual Report. As our director Jörg Menche noted regarding interdisciplinary work: “We must be able to do both: zoom in to achieve precision, and at the same time broaden our view to discover unexpected connections.” FRANCIS provides the appropriate framework for this approach.
